Scandinavian Design Alert! When I first got there, there was a feeling that I am in Norway.
This park has something special, very minimalistic design that reminds Scandinavian design, incredible nature, and a combination of nature and installations. The renewed version of the park was made by Ukrainian design and architecture studio SBM.
“I would like to create something similar to Central Park in New York. We decided to interfere with nature minimally, but just clear dark corners and nooks with crannies, and make good lighting. It will be a water-landscape park where you can read a book, do yoga, just relax without loud music and merry-go-rounds. Such a “summer residence for everyone”, – said one of the authors of the project Olga Kleitman.
And, they successfully made it. The park has some small details like chairs or small ponds. It also has a cable car flowing to another famous Kharkiv park – Gorky Park. A water source, and even a small church on the top of the hill. Sarzhin Yar is not a Botanic Garden but located on the station of Botanic Garden, so people call it Botanic Garden sometimes.
Kharkiv is a scientific centre of Ukraine, located in the Eastern part. The city is full of beautiful parks, but stylish Scandinavian design is not common for this city, unfortunately. However, this park proves that people really enjoy this arty, minimalistic, detail-oriented, nature adorable style of architecture.
Some history of this park.
The territory of the Yar was populated a long time before the founding of Kharkiv. According to the director of the Slobozhansky archaeological service I. Golubeva, in the Yar, the Slobozhansky archaeological service revealed ancient Scythian settlements.
In the 18th century, in the part of the Yar close to the Lopan River, there was a small settlement, it is called “the possessive settlement on Sargen Yar.” And was located at the intersection of the Zolochevskaya road (now Klochkovskaya street) with the Sarzhinka river; on the map of 1788 the farm is called Sarzhin. At the bottom of the spring from the former farmstead Otradny flowed Sarzhin stream, the right tributary of the Sarzhinki river. (Wiki)
